mark No, sorry.
But I bet you can find excellent mountaineers or climbing guides around the area.

Self guided rock climbing is a big mistake.
If you have never climbed rocks before make sure you get an experienced climber, preferably a pro to teach you.

Joshua Tree National Park

Hello Jillian,

The south entrance at Cottonwood Spring is the closest to Palm Desert and it's just under an hour away. If you drive to the Joshua Tree west entrance, you're looking at an hour and a 1/2 drive. What you may want to consider is entering the park at the Joshua Tree entrance and then work your way to the Cottonwood entrance/exit. It's about 70 miles between the points - figuring in a couple of popular side trips like Keys View & Cottonwood Spring Oasis. Allow yourselves no less than 2 hours.

You can get to the south entrance at Cottonwood Spring via Interstate 10 and to the Joshua Tree west entrance via Highway 29. There are visitor centers at both of these entrances.

Be sure to have a full tank of gas, food, and plenty of water.

We hope you have a terrific time!

Joshua Tree National Park

I will be staying in Palm Desert with my friend in the first half of October. We would like to take a day trip by car to the Joshua Tree N.P.

How far ist it, and how long would it take? What is the best way to go, and what to see? Is it mainly a drive-thru park?
